He was born on April 3, 1936 in Peoria, IL to Albert and Lucille (Schimdt) McCollum. He married Phyllis Threet on January 16, 1965 in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are two children, Lisa (Dennis) Bryant of Peoria and Kevin McCollum; two step-children, Marsha (Kalvan) Mear of Bartonville and Debra Legeness of Davenport, IA; ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Washburn of Peoria and Shirley Godar of Morton.
He was preceded by his parents and one brother, Robert McCollum.
Al served in the U.S. Army and then later worked in Plant Security and as a volunteer fireman with Caterpillar Inc in Morton. He was of the Baptist faith.
He enjoyed working puzzles, hunting and was an avid Cardinal Baseball fan.
A graveside service will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
