This took me a while to write. I met Alex when we were both in very dark places in our lives. Things did not end on very good terms between us, from mostly my lack of understanding of practically anything. Things haven’t been the same since her phone calls. I could call her at 3 am and she’d answer and listen to what I got going on and I’d listen to what she had goin on. She’d thank me so much for listening but I was just so happy to have a somebody to talk to and if I was playing the victim she would have no problem calling me a dick and telling me to get on with it.  We came from completely different backgrounds. She taught me a lot especially how to accept people no matter who they are,  and I sure as hell miss her a lot. When it finally hit that I could no longer speak with her, I lost my heart that day. It’s an all day thought process. Not knowing any of her friends and her not knowing mine. I grieve alone. I think about our morning conversations and how Intrigued I was by how many places she had been. I had a dream you were with your mother, gynelle (with a g) and you would laugh and you’d tell all these stories about her and always cry to me on how much you miss her. You”re with her now Alex. I’m sorry this is long. If I ever get married Alex, it will be you who I am thinking about. I loved you more than anything in this world and all I can say is you were the light of my day. I know we’d argue but even you said it was because we loved each other. I’d give my right arm to be able to talk to you again. You changed my life and made me a better person who can empathize with people and you made me less ignorant. I’ll never forget the first time I actually met you. You were so nervous and I was desperately trying to hide how nervous I was. I will remain anonymous out of respect for your friends and family.  There was a time where you loved me and I loved you even more. You’d probably laugh at this.  The only person who truly knew me.  you’re with your mom now Alex

I met Alex when she was in high school.  She came to work for us because she loved to cook with her mother as a child.  She must have been 14 or 15.  She came to our bakery/take away as a kid who was full of curiosity, fun, and looking to keep that connection with her mother by continuing to cook after she passed.  As we got to know her, she became a part of our bakery’s family.   Over the years we have sent some high schoolers on to culinary school and it’s always such a proud moment to see them get out cooking in the world. That was Alex.   We sure were proud- and will always be grateful to the spark she shared with us during our time together.  Always fun to hear what she was on to next- traveling, running marathons, growing up.. she was so fun to see on occasional trips back to Peoria.   She will be sorely missed by so many. 
Cyd and I are so sorry for your family’s loss- for all of our sadness- in losing Alex.  We hope her spark can travel on with you all- create those big fun meals and toast her;  take the trip for great food + eat your heart out; get excited to create the next killer meal in her honor; climb the mountain- it’s what Alex loved to do!   I will honor her this way.

Alex visited me in Atlanta back in 2022. She was so excited about all of the yummy food we were going to be eating. We stayed at a cute little Airbnb and had the best weekend together.

There are no words that can express the sadness I felt when I heard of this family tragedy. I was best friends with Gynell in high school. She would have been over the moon proud of her sweet daughter. And now she is resting peacefully in her sweet Momma's arms. My sincere condolences for your loss.  May you find peace in your memories. I only really knew Alex from knowing all the unconditional love, unwavering support and encouragement Wally and Nat blessed her with.  They adored her and she was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.  Not many people get to experience that deep love and connection.  My heart breaks for her entire family and friends.  I know she was an amazing person because of being so loved by some truly amazing, kind, fun loving people.

Reading this tragically sad news I found out that Alex and I share the same birthday, July 17 which draws my heart connection to her and her family in an even more profound way.

Alex was my Sales Dev Representative when we both started at ChowNow in 2020 and from there, we built a friendship over the years. I valued our monthly, hour long "catch up" phone calls that we kept up with even after moving to different team within the company.  Not only was Alex an outstanding sales professional who was always at the top of the sales leader board, but an ever better co-work and friend. I am sending my love to Alex's family, friends, Mal (who I know she loved so much) and all who knew her.

Alex, when I heard about your passing it broke my heart. You were in my life for a short period of time while you were living in Chicago but it was one of the most memorable times. We had so much fun living on the third floor on Cornelia and it wasn’t the same after you and John moved out. 

Remember John’s strip show? The Laurnament? We shared so many laughs together. We also shared some tears in late night conversations about losing close family members. I will never  forget you and I know you are in a peaceful place, my friend.

I recently met Alex and in just a small time, witnessed the love she had for her family and friends.  Her laughter and smile was evident she loved and lived life to its fullest.  Her bond with Katie was more than some sisters share. May her laughter and smile be present in all of us as we try and cope with such a loss. So many memories every summer at the lake with Al. She was such a bright light. I couldn't wait for her to be back at the cabin each year. She was so much fun to be around and always made me laugh so hard. We would put on performances for our parents to motown songs and she was always the creative one with the good ideas. She was truly such a wonderful person inside and out. She will definitely be missed. Rest in peace sweet girl.

Alex loved travel and everything this world had to experience.

NOLA restaurant was a beast of a restaurant in the French Quarter. We easily had a hundred co-workers. 

Something that ALWAYS impressed me when we worked together in that restaurant was that Alex knew every single person's name who worked there, from dishwashers to busboys to servers.  All while entertaining guests and pumping out amazing food from the wood oven Chefs Table

Uncle Lou, a longtime French Quarter institution of a person, a guy who met hundreds of people a day, was on a first name basis with Alex because she was just friends with EVERYBODY!!!
