

Allen George Schumacher, 86, of Peoria, passed away on Monday September 16, 2024, at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria. He was born on January 30, 1938, in Sterling, Illinois, a son of George Schumacher and Louisa (Kahler) Schumacher and he was raised in Morrison, Illinois.
Allen attended Morrison High School and then Bradley University, where he met his wife Joy Elaine Hamilton. They were married in Brimfield, Illinois on June 19, 1960. Elaine preceded him in death in Peoria on January 13, 2022.
Allen was also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Bernita (Robert) Bush and Ila (Marvin) Geerts; and one brother, Wilmer Schumacher, who was a World War II veteran.
Allen is survived by his two sons, David A. (Leticia) Schumacher of Houston, Texas, and Thomas H. Schumacher of Peoria.
After Allen’s graduation from Bradley University and marriage to Elaine, he began working for Equitable Life Insurance Company. They briefly lived in Omaha, Nebraska before transferring to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where David and Thomas were born. They then returned to Peoria in 1977 where they had lived since.
Allen retired from full-time work with Equitable in 1993 after more than 30 years. During this time, he was an Office Manager and Agent and became a Chartered Life Underwriter and Certified Financial Consultant. He continued as a part-time Agent and CFC for another 10 years.
Allen and Elaine travelled numerous times to Germany and the U.K. with friends and family. They also journeyed on long trips to Hawaii, China, and Australia, and they cruised the Caribbean and Alaska.
Allen was an avid collector of antique clocks and watches, Illinois pottery, classical records, and scotch bottles. His other hobbies included a red 1967 Chevrolet Camaro convertible, listening to classical music, gardening and backyard bird watching.
Allen was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Peoria. He was also a 50+ year member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. Other memberships included the Illinois Pottery Association, Blue and White Pottery Association, Forest Park Nature Center, Peoria Riverfront Museum, and Society of Financial Services Professionals.
Allen's funeral service will be Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at First English Lutheran Church in Peoria. Rev. Ryan Anderson will officiate. His visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The committal service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, Illinois. Rev. Ryan Anderson will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First English Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
