Ardith Herrmann

March 11, 1939March 18, 2021

Ardith Anne (Hunziker) Herrmann, 82, of Peoria, went to be with the Lord at 6:15 p.m., Thurs., March 18, 2021, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, Illinois.

Born March 11, 1939, in Peoria to Albert M. and Helen I. (Sauder) Hunziker, she married Harold F. Herrmann on Dec. 21, 1958, in Peoria. He preceded her death on Dec. 30, 1998, in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and their wives, Dale (& Barbara) and Albert (& Virginia) Hunziker.

Surviving are her son, Derek (& Patrice) Herrmann; and daughters, Holly (& Dean) Ramseyer and Faith (& Jim) Carlson; and her grandchildren, Leah, Chase, and Abe Ramseyer, Ivan and Lucy Carlson, and Connor Groom; one brother, Willis (& Gloria) Hunziker; her sister, Mardell (& Melvin) Plattner; all of Peoria; and one sister-in-law, Carol (& Larry) Stoecker, of Washington, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

Ardith worked at the A&W root-beer stand, Block & Kuhl, and the Sheridan Village Bank and was then a homemaker. In 1977, she and her husband purchased Kickapoo Sand & Gravel, and she was instrumental in its operations through 2018.

Ardith gave her life to the Lord on July 18, 1966, and she was a faithful member of Sheridan Road Apostolic Christian Church for 55 years. She loved children, and many will remember her as “the candy lady.”

Perhaps her greatest talent was the support and love she gave her children, whom she firmly believed were her greatest achievement. She later became a much-beloved grandmother to her grandchildren.

During her long and varied life’s journey, she chose a course of action in any endeavor as directed in Colossians 3:23 “Whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as unto the LORD, and not unto men.”

She enjoyed the companionship of close friends, many of whom she know most of her life. She was strong, adventurous, faithful, fun, loving, sensitive, and kind-hearted. She was witty and feisty all the way to the end. She will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Woolsey-Wilton Mortuary on Willow Knolls Dr., and one hour before services at the church. Services will be at 12 p.m. on Sunday, March 21, 2021, at her church. Church ministers will officiate. Burial will be in the Peoria Apostolic Christian Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Apostolic Christian Church, 3420 N. Sheridan Rd., Peoria, IL 61604, or to Light House Academy, 2322 W. Willow Knolls Dr., Peoria, IL 61614. You may view Ardith’s obituary online at

I was sorry to learn of Ardith's passing. She sounds like a woman who knew what was important in life and a true character I would have loved to meet. My heart goes out to my co-worker Jim Carlson and his wife and all of her family and friends who will no doubt feel her loss deeply.

I hope you can find a way to laugh through your tears as you share memories over the new few days and weeks to come. My heart and prayers are with you.
