

Services will be held at 11 am Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Mt Calvary Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Pastor Barry Long will officiate. Internment will be held at a later date in Springfield National Cemetery.
Arlene was born in Peoria on July 21, 1935, to Fred J. and Helen J. (Klein) Pfeiffer. She graduated from Peoria Central High School in 1953. She married Richard "Dick" B. Bishop in Kansas City, Kan., on June 6, 1953. Dick and Arlene were married for more than 60 years. He preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 2013.
Arlene devoted her life to her family and spent most of her adulthood as a homemaker. When her children left home, she helped Dick to run his construction and real estate businesses in Illinois and Florida. She also worked for several years as assistant to the the director of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall in Sarasota, Fla. An avid golfer, Arlene was the most prolific winner in her regional league in Florida. Her other pastimes included playing Mahjong and bridge with her friends at the Bradenton Country Club and entertaining at her home for family and loved ones.
Survivors include three daughters, Deborah (Jerry) Heinz of Peoria Heights, Ill., Cynthia (Brett) Niebur of Omaha, Neb., and Patricia Stonecipher of Mt. Zion, Ill.; one sister, Barbara M. Zook of Peoria; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
The family would like to thank the staff of Shepherd’s Way at Proctor Place and Unity Point Hospice for their wonderful care of Arlene.
As we remember Arlene, her family invites her loved ones to take comfort in the words of John 16:22, "Therefore you too have grief now; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you."
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Unity Point Hospice or Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.
