She was born on March 12, 1920 in Peoria, the only child of George and Frieda Reising of Peoria. They preceded her in death, as did her husband of sixty years, Arthur M. Secretan of Dunlap and Peoria.
Betty was a 1937 graduate of Peoria High School and a life-long resident of the Peoria area. She began her professional career in a brokerage firm. For many years she served as a trust officer at Jefferson Bank, and later at its successor, Chase Bank, in Peoria. She was active in the Illinois Business and Professional Women’s Association.
Betty was a talented amateur artist, an expert at embroidery and a fine seamstress. In her retirement she took up quilting. Gardening was a passion until she moved to Apostolic Christian Skylines in June of 2008. Betty’s half acre plotof peonies were spectacular every spring and summer. To her delight, strangers often stopped to admire them. She loved to travel. She also devoted many of her retirement years to being her husband’s caregiver when he suffered serious health problems.
Betty is survived by her only child, Marcy Secretan Wallace (John C. McNulty) of St. Paul, Minnesota, by her cousin, Judith (Herman) Bill of Peoria Heights, Illinois and their family and her cousin Nancee Adams of Texas and her family. Betty also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Estrel Secretan, of Washington, Illinois, more cousins, nieces and nephews in many locales and members of Arthur’s large extended family in Utah, Canada and Switzerland, as well as Marcy’s stepchildren and their families in Minnesota, and some dear friends. Among those surviving dear friends Betty counted many current and past staff members and volunteers of Apostolic Christian Skylines.
