She was born May 22, 1933 in Carlinville to Robert and Myrtle (Edwards) Hoxsey.
She married Gerald Steffy on June 1, 1952 at the Baptist Foundation College, where they met. Gerald became a pastor at age 20 in Harrisburg, IL and Betty began teaching a Senior Women’s Sunday School class at age 19. For more than 50 years she served as a pastor’s wife and faithful servant of God. One of her greatest joys was teaching English to immigrants in their congregation. Betty embarked on mission trips to foreign countries to spread the good news of Jesus. She was always listening for God’s direction and following wherever she felt He led her.
