Peoria Heights, IL– Bettye M. James, 85, of North Galena Rd., Peoria Heights, passed away at 7:28 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014 at Cornerstone Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Peoria Heights. She was born on May 1, 1928 in Kewanee, IL to Frank and Sophie (Van Waes) Karpowicz. She married Carl James Jr. on Dec. 9, 1996 in Kewanee. He preceded her in death on July 4, 2002 in Peoria Heights. Bettye is survived by 3 sisters, Marie Doak of Peoria, Frances Kidd of Burbank, CA and Katherine (James) Vlasis of Pekin; 2 brothers, Dan (Shirley) Karpowicz of Ft. Myers, FL and Frank (Mary Elizabeth) Karpowicz of Huntley. Graveside Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014 at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria, IL.
