She was born on May 13, 1923, in East Peoria, Illinois, to Rudolph and Anna Zimmerman. On May 13, 1951, Carolyn celebrated her 28th birthday by marrying the love of her life and World War II pen pal, Robert Gnepper. They shared many beautiful years together until Robert's passing on July 9, 2017.
Carolyn will be remembered for her warm spirit, generous heart and the joy she found in life’s simple pleasures. She had a deep love for sewing, often creating thoughtful, handmade pieces that she shared with family and friends. She adored going shopping with her daughter, whether for something specific or just for fun, & she cherished the time spent exploring new places through her travels with Robert.
She was a member of United Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and office volunteer, giving of her time & energy. Her kindness & willingness to help touched many lives. A true social butterfly at heart, Carolyn never knew a stranger & found comfort in her Starbucks coffee & good conversation with anyone around her.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Gnepper (Ken Miller), as well as several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Anna, as well as her beloved husband, Robert.
Carolyn’s legacy is one of compassion, creativity & quiet generosity. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 8, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel.
The family would like to thank the Arc at Chillicothe & Traditions hospice for the wonderful care and support they provided.
