He was born Nov. 25, 1949 in Orange City, IA to Albert and Lillian (Shields) Hancock. They preceded him in death along with one infant brother, Kevin.
He is survived by three sons: Chad (Kathy) Hancock of Chillicothe, Kevin Hancock of Pekin, Ryan Hancock of St Louis, MO, five grandchildren: Aidan, Carson, Ashlyn, Tenley, Flynn, and one brother, Curt (Valerie) Hancock of Mount Vernon, IA.
Craig was born and raised in a small Dutch town in Northwest Iowa. He then attended the South Dakota School of Mines earning a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1975. He worked for Caterpillar as a Mechanical Engineer for nearly 40 years, retiring in 2014. In 1999, he furthered his studies by obtaining an MBA degree from Bradley University.
He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan, a hunter, poker player and, until more recent years, an avid runner (he ran the Bix 7 in Davenport, Iowa for 25 consecutive years!). Most of all, Craig ("Grandad") was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren. You would regularly find him on the sidelines cheering them on in their sporting events, theatre, band or choir activities.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of Craig’s life will be Saturday, April 30, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon at the Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff and caregivers at Manor Court and VITAS Hospice Care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate at stjude.org.
