She was born March 9, 1935 in Bartonville, IL to Edward and Lela (Thompson) Birgam. She married Paul Heimberger in 1956. He preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents, one brother, Charles Birgam, two uncles Joe and Frank Thompson, and her longtime companion of 33 years, Douglas Dooley.
Surviving is her daughter, Dana DeWolf of Peoria; a grandson, Dallas (Hiedi) Heimberger, two great-grandchildren, Kalum and Logan McDonald; and one brother Dennis (Donna) Miller of Washington.
Darlene loved bowling and bowled in several leagues in Peoria and East Peoria. She also enjoyed her monthly outings and breakfast with several of her grade school friends. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister and companion.
A service will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 29, 2021 with visitation one hour prior to the service at Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. Entombment will be at American Mausoleum in Peoria at a later date.
