Dave was born on October 3, 1950, to James Evans and Eileen (Dush)Evans-later Johnston, in Decatur, IL.
Dave married Nancy (Brown) Evans on October 9, 1971, at the University United Methodist Church in Peoria. He adored her, she was the love of his life. During their 54 years of marriage, they worked together, traveled together and cherished each other.
He was so proud of their three children: Jennifer (Jason) Stewart, Jason (Jamie) Evans and Nicholas (Addi) Evans. The joy of his life were his eight grandchildren: Jacob, Jordan, Presley, Morgan, Charlie, Drew, Kelsey, and Liam. In addition to his immediate family, Dave is also survived by his siblings Paula Evans, Shelly Evans, Penny (Dick) Nill, Robert Johnston, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, June Evans, and his stepfather, Robert P. Johnston.
Dave managed Sheridan Road Lumber Company in Peoria, IL, until his retirement in 2020. At the lumber yard, he oversaw the daily operations which included serving customers, figuring house plans, managing projects and inventory, and supervising personnel. His experience in carpentry began as a teenager when he helped his stepfather, Robert Johnston, build homes. Even though this was not of interest to him at the time, the carpentry skills he learned as a youth turned into a lifetime career. When reminiscing on his life, Dave recently shared-"you never know what God is training you for."
Throughout his life he enjoyed "chasing trains" as a model railroader, nature photography, playing the drums in a high school band as well as worship band and most recently cheering his grandkids on at sporting events. A labor of love, Dave designed and built a beautiful lakeside home where he and Nancy spent many years watching their grandkids grow.
Dave was a member of Richwoods Christian Church in Peoria, IL for over 25 years. He served there as an elder, hosted small groups in his home, and helped design and remodel his church. Dave's strong faith in the Lord was evident by his quiet nature, his heart to serve, and the continual leading of his family and others to God. His quick wit, wise council, and loving support will be greatly missed until we meet again. John 3:16
A private memorial service for family as well as a celebration of life for family and friends will be held at a later date.
