Hospital with loving family and Chaplain Scot at his side.
Born November 15, 1951 in Columbus, Ohio, to Vernon and Ruth Kalish Moder, Dave was a 1969 graduate of Columbus West High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from The Ohio State University in 1973. He married Mary Jane Davis in June of 1972. They moved to Peoria, IL in 1974 when Dave accepted a job at Caterpillar Tractor Company.
Dave is survived by his wife of 50 years; his proudest "achievement", daughter Dr. Jennifer Moder-Bell (Dr. John Bell) of Lebanon, Illinois; brother Ron (Susan) of Westerville, Ohio; sister Joanne (John) Williams of Howard, Ohio; nephews Dan Moder, Allen (Sherry) Miller, and Scott (Jennifer) Kravchuk; and four nephews and two nieces. Also grieving his loss will be his sweet goldendoodle Annie. He was preceded in death by his parents and niece Christine Moder, and the best dog he ever loved, Woody (Wayne Woodrow Hayes Moder).
Dave was a fan of all sports, most of all his Ohio State football and St. Louis Blues hockey teams, as well as coaching Jen's soccer teams for several years. His favorite activity was attending concerts conducted by his daughter. He enjoyed bowling with a Caterpillar men's league and as a King's Kegler with the Redeemer Lutheran Church league. His time as a volunteer chaplain at Methodist Hospital was among his most valued experiences.
There will be a private family entombment with a celebration of life to be announced at a later date.
Memorials may be given to the Joslin Clinic (from whom he received a medal after successfully fighting Type 1 Diabetes for 60 years) at Joslin.org (from the drop down menu select give, then choose designate to Type 1 Research and in memory of David Moder); or to the Nationwide Children's Hospital Foundation, PO Box 16810, Columbus, Ohio 43216.
