

Donald was born in Evansville, Indiana on May 1, 1923 a son of Marion and Henrietta (Duckworth) Shelton. He married Dorothy Meehan in Peoria on November 16, 2000.
He is preceded in death by his wife of six years, his parents, and one brother Art Shelton.
Donald is survived by his children, Lynn (David) Johnston of Mapleton, and Grady Shelton of Webster, Texas; four grandchildren, Mindy (Todd) Leach of Bartonville, Michael (Michele) Johnston of Mapleton, Matthew (Julie) Johnston of Peoria, and Melissa (Brian) Grice of mapleton; eight great-grandchildren, Evan, Mitchell, Cole, C.J., Brooke, Gabrielle, Chase, and Chloe; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a graduate of Bradley University. The St. Louis Cardinals recruited him as a left-handed pitcher, but this opportunity was interrupted by World War II, where he served as a Medic. He is in the Bradley Sports Hall of Fame for Baseball, Basketball and Football.
Donald was a member of The Elk's Lodge # 20, AMVETS, and The American Legion. He was an avid golfer, and played in the Sunday Morning Baseball League for several years.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Per his request there will be no services, just think of him fondly.
Entombment of ashes will be in The Chapel of Peace at Parkview Cemetery at a later date.
