Dora Elva Mohney

Dora was born August 30, 1934, in Sarver, Pennsylvania, to David and Emily (Turner) Love. On July 30, 1955, she married Robert Charles Mohney. They made their home in Lake Zurich, Illinois, where they raised their daughters, Karen and Leslie. Lake Zurich remained Dora’s home for most of her life and was the setting for countless family memories over the years.

Dora devoted much of her professional life to Protection Mutual Insurance Company, where she worked as an administrative professional supporting company leadership. She retired after a long and dedicated career.

Above all else, Dora’s greatest love was her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose love was unconditional and whose family knew they could always count on her. Through life’s happiest moments as well as its most difficult ones, Dora was there—offering her love, help, and steady support whenever it was needed.

For the past five years, Dora made her home with her daughter Karen and son-in-law Russ. This time together was a meaningful and cherished chapter in her life, filled with daily companionship, shared routines, and many lasting memories. Her love for both of her daughters and for her entire family remained constant and unwavering throughout her life.

Dora enjoyed sewing and reading and treasured time spent with her family. She was also a proud and deeply patriotic American. She took great pride in the military service of her husband Robert, her son-in-law Russ, her brothers, and other members of her family, and she held a special place in her heart for all who served in the United States Armed Forces. Her patriotism was reflected in her support of organizations serving veterans, including Tunnel to Towers Foundation and Wounded Warrior Project.

Her giving spirit extended beyond her family. Dora regularly supported Midwest Food Bank and believed strongly in helping those in need within her community. Her generosity was quiet and sincere, given without expectation of recognition, simply as an expression of who she was.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ.

Dora was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Charles Mohney; her parents, David and Emily Love; her four brothers, Dave, Bob, Ralph, and Tom; and her son-in-law, Russell Bennett.

She is survived by her daughters, Karen (the late Russell) Bennett of Peoria, Illinois, and Leslie (Mark) Schwind of Ingleside, Illinois; six granddaughters, Allison Logsdon of Farmington, Illinois, Jennifer Teubel of Gilbert, Arizona, Carrie Colwell of Peoria, Illinois, Abbey Hodge of Milan, Illinois, Ashleigh Bennett of St. Augustine, Florida, and Emilie Schwind of Ingleside, Illinois; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her beloved nieces and nephews, the children of her late brothers, with whom she shared a lasting family bond.

Dora will be remembered for her unconditional love, her devotion to family, her generosity, and her steady presence in the lives of those she cared for. Her family was the center of her world, and the love she gave so freely will remain with them always.

A private graveside service for immediate family will be held Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Windridge Memorial Park and Nature Sanctuary in Cary, Illinois.
