Dorothy "Dot" Henderson

She was born on September 1, 1931 in Yonkers, NY to Frank W. and Catherine M. (Worth) Peene. She married John O. Henderson on October 2, 1954 in Yonkers, NY. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law, Bryan Cannon.

Surviving is her husband, John of Peoria, four children, Donna (Christian) Wainwright Esq. of Adelphi, MD; Linda Henderson, D.V.M. of Holyoke, MA; Patricia (Bryan) Cannon of Naperville, IL; and James Scott (Elizabeth) Henderson of Madison, WI. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Andrea (Cannon) Tigulis, Patrick Cannon, Benjamin and Theresa Wainwright, Collin, Steven, Joshua and Nicholas Henderson and one great-grandson, Graham Bryan Tigulis.

Dot graduated from Wheaton College in Norton, Mass. with a Bachelor’s degree in History and worked for Vick Chemical in New York City following college graduation. After marrying John, she lived in Tripoli, Libya as a U.S.A.F. spouse. They also lived in Oklahoma City while John was on assignment with Caterpillar, Inc.

She was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church of Peoria for over 40 yrs, and was a member of the P.E.O., the IVY Club and the Great Lakes Cruising Club. She and her husband sailed extensively on their boat in all five of the Great Lakes for the last 30 years, earning the Great Lakes Cruising Club’s Bayfield Award. Dot was a volunteer puppeteer with the Peoria Symphony Guild Puppet Show for over twenty years, and was an active genealogist with thousands of names in her database and was an accomplished seamstress.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 from 5 to 7 pm at Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. A funeral will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to the service at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Peoria. The Rev. Dr. Doug Hucke will officiate. Cremation will be accorded following the service.
