

Dwight “Ike” Scogin Lovvorn, 88, a longtime Peoria area resident passed peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday July 20, 2022, in Washington State, where he had been living with his son, daughter-in-law and family for the past year.
Ike was born on June 19,1934 in Jasper, AL as one of five sons to Gaines W. and Pearl Scogin Lovvorn. After graduating high school, he set out to build a life in Illinois, working first for Caterpillar, before entering 50 years of employment with Rohn Industries. All total Ike would spend 69 years in Peoria, making many close friends during that time. As a young man, he married Beverly Hootman and they had two children, Adena and Michael who survive him. He was preceded in death by Beverly. He married Norina “Roni” Ingles Sanders and expanded his family with her three children, Mitchell, Jovena, and Cassondra, who also survive him. Ike and Roni enjoyed many years of love and adventure until her passing in 2011.
Ike was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers James Lecil, John Delbert, and William “Boots” Lovvorn and his granddaughter Aysley Sanders.
Ike is survived by his children Adena Lovvorn Sanders (Wimberley, TX), Mike (Dea) Lovvorn (Oroville, WA) along with Mitch Sanders (Wimberley, TX), Jovena Sanders (Houston, TX), and Cassondra Basso, married formerly to Joseph Basso (Peoria, IL), and survived by one brother, Gerald Wendell (Emily) Lovvorn of LaGrange, GA, twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren: Brandon (Julia) Sanders: Vincent, Broderick & Zoe, Ariel (Logan) Beyhl: Otis & Felix, Elisabeth Elias, Char (Charles) Klepac; Landon Whitecotten, Trew (Anna) Basso: Logan, Breanna Basso, Bridget (Max) Kahn: Conrad; Joseph Basso and Alex, Brandon & Georgia Weaver. He is also survived by his faithful cat, Cotton, who was his constant companion.
Ike will be missed tremendously by extended family and the many wonderful friends he made throughout his lifetime. He was of the Southern Baptist faith from a young age, and practiced his faith throughout life. He could fix anything or knew someone who could. He loved living and truly never met a stranger. A favorite motto of his was “Smile at the world, and the world will smile back at you.”
A celebration of life service for Ike will be held Friday July 29, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Davidson-Fulton Woodland chapel in Peoria with visitation from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services.
