Essie Mae Zolicoffer

She was born in Humphreys, Mississippi to Willie and Bessie Nailor. She married James Zolicoffer on December 24, 1941 in Isola, Mississippi. Husband passed away October 17, 1996 in Peoria.

Essie is also preceded in death by her children, Jean, James, Paul, Nairhake and Essie Lee; parents, one sister and four brothers.

She is survived by her children, Oscar(Louise), Wardell(Evelina), Willie, Betty(Lewis), Esther(Charles), Bessie, Lillie, Anna, Mae Ruth, Earnestine, Mary, Minnie, Geraldine; step-children, Margaret, Clara, Mary and Maggie; a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Essie was known for her nurturing spirit and her deep-rooted faith in God. She found immense joy in caring for her extensive family, which included her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom held a special place in her heart.

Essie's hobbies reflected her nurturing nature and creative spirit. She had a passion for sewing. Essie delighted in preparing delicious meals that brought her family together around the table. Her home was adorned with houseplants, a testament to her green thumb and her ability to nurture life in all forms.

Above all, Essie was a woman of faith. She found solace and strength in her relationship with God, often sharing her beliefs with those around her. Psalm 23 held a special significance for her, providing comfort and guidance throughout her life's journey.

Essie's family was her greatest joy and priority. She dedicated herself to their well-being and happiness, always offering her support, wisdom, and prayers. Her role as a praying woman was central to her life, and her faith permeated every aspect of her being.

Funeral service will be held Friday, July 26, 2024 at 1 p.m. at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel, Peoria with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Lutheran Cemetery, Peoria.
