Peoria – Evelyn Eleanor Vorderstrasse, 85, of 3400 West Washington, Springfield, IL, formerly of Peoria, passed away at 6:15 AM on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield, IL. She was born on March 9, 1928 in Peoria to Charles and Mildred Horstmann (Bennett) Turner. She married David P. Vorderstrasse on March 19, 1949 in Peoria. He preceded her in death in June of 2008 in Morton, IL. She was also preceded by her parents, one sister and two brothers.
Evelyn is survived by two daughters Susan (William Miller) Vorderstrasse-Miller of Springfield, IL and Dr. Julie (Sherman) Childers of Shelbyville, TN; two sons Jeffrey Vorderstrasse of Springfield, IL and James Vorderstrasse of Carmichael, CA; 14 Grandchildren and 18 Great Grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was a homemaker. She had been a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Springfield.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Christ Lutheran Church, 2020 West Malone, Peoria, IL. Rev. Karl Eckhoff will officiate. A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 PM prior to services at the church. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association.
