

Bill was born on September 22, 1929 in Peoria to Eva (Sprague) & Floyd Hawkins. He married Lillian “Pat” Barthell on April 30, 1951. She passed away on December 17, 1977, He later married Barbara Brown on January 24, 1981. She survives.
Also surviving are his three children, Valerie (Patrick) Callahan of Knoxville, Jeff Hawkins of Bandon, OR and Randy (Janis ) Hawkins of Chillicothe; five step-children, Mark (Hankie) Brown of Oak Park, Matthew (Nancy) Brown of Morton, Mitchell (Sue) Brown of East Peoria, Melissa (Brian)Nichols of Washington and Mindy (Jeff) Taylor of Washington; eighteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert.
Bill was a Korean War Army Veteran.
He worked for the TP&W-Santa Fe Railroads for 37 years, retiring as general traffic manager in 1986. He then worked for Hub City Terminals for 15 years, retiring in 2002.
Bill was past president of the Transportation Club of Peoria, and a member of Elks Lodge of Peoria #20 and Peoria Post #2 American Legion.
He will be remembered as a kindhearted man who loved his family.
A Celebration of his life will be at 1:00p.m. Sunday October 21, 2012 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. on Saturday October 20, 2012 also at the funeral home.
Cremation rites will be accorded with a private burial at a later date in Springdale Cemetery.
