She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on August 28, 1932, to Valentine and Florence (Krogh) Borger. She married Edward Rufus on June 13, 1953. He preceded her in death on May 13, 2014.
Florence was also preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Joseph Borger and Frank Borger; and her grandson, Aaron Akers.
She is survived by her children: Dr. Edward (Deborah) Rufus Jr., Joseph (Jeanette) Rufus, and Carol (Rick) Miller; her grandchildren: Dr. Ashley (Dr. Matthew) Fischer, Dr. Daniel Rufus, Steven (Renata) Rufus, Brian Miller, and Marisa Miller; and her great-grandchildren: Conner, Sophia, and Ava Fischer, and Erin Akers.
Florence was a homemaker and a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother "Gigi". She raised her family in New Cumberland, PA. After her children were grown, she and her husband retired to Florida, where she embraced an active and fulfilling lifestyle.
She found joy in many things—golfing under sunny skies, practicing yoga and exercising, and getting lost in a good book. Her artistic side shone through in her oil and watercolor paintings, and she always had a deck of cards ready for a friendly game.
Florence cherished long walks and treasured the time spent on cruises with her beloved husband. In 2018, she moved to Illinois to be closer to her family and enjoyed every moment she spent with them.
A very special thank you from her family to everyone who helped her throughout her journey.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Florence’s name to Illinois CancerCare, Lutheran Hillside Village or St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Peoria Heights, IL.
