
Peoria - Florence Evelyn Turner, 96, of Peoria, passed away in her sleep on Friday, October 8, 2021 at her home. She was born on November 24, 1924 in Princeville, a daughter of Ward and Rena (Reicheneker) Mummert. Florence married Glen S. Turner on April 25, 1952 in Princeville. He preceded her in death on August 31, 1998 in Peoria.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister; and four brothers.
Florence is survived by her daughter, Lorraine Turner of Peoria; sister-in-law, Mary Mummert of Wyoming; cousins, Doris Reicheneker of Peoria and Barbara Reicheneker of Texas; and other numerous cousins.
Florence was raised in Princeville where she attended grade school and graduated high school during World War II. While she was in high school she was tasked with the ceremonial hoisting of the American flag every morning up the flagpole and the lowering of the flag every evening. As a teenager she worked as a babysitter and also at a local label manufacturing plant. She later worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company in East Peoria as a clerk.
Florence interests were in politics, reading the Journal Star, volunteering at the Peoria Heights Library, sewing arts, crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed watching CBS News, local news and weather, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and the Grace Worship Hour on NBC. She was a former member of the Princeville Presbyterian Church.
Florence's graveside service will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria. There will be no visitation. Service arrangements have been entrusted to the Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Florence's honor to the Mayo Clinic Department of Development at https://philanthropy.mayoclinic.org/ to continue research on colorectal cancer because of her late husband.
