
Frances Cohen Frances Cohen, of Peoria, dearly beloved by so very many, passed away on May 2, 2012 as gracefully as she lived at her home in San Rafael, CA. She was 97 years young. Born Sept. 24 1914 in Buffalo NY, daughter of Louis and Rose Feldman. She was vibrant, radiant, sweet and so very thoughtful towards others. Active with her many friends, she loved Mah Jong, Bridge, discussing politics and current events. She loved traveling, reading, writing and painting. She received her 1st award at the age of 13 given for top honors and citizenship at her local school in Buffalo. At 19, she traveled to Illinois to visit the World’s Fair in Chicago and to be the maid of honor for her best friend. There she met self-made businessman Morris Cohen of Peoria, IL. They married in 1934. She began her retail sales career at Mademoiselle Dress Shop in 1957 and advanced herself to earning several sales awards. She retired after 22 years, and moved to be near her daughter and son in CA. While in CA she won awards for her poetry and her story writing. She has been a member of Agudas Achim Synagogue and Ladies Auxiliary for 78 years. She was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her sister Selma Weill, sons Carl Cohen of Peoria, Dennis (Annie) Cohen of San Rafael, her daughter Bonnie (Richard) Rowe of Santa Rosa CA, niece and nephews of CA and MD, grandchildren Zachary (Trina) Rowe of Maryland, Ashara (Marc) Shapiro of Pennsylvania and three great grandchildren. A memorial service held in San Rafael at a later date for close friends and family. Contributions may be made to Peoria Hebrew Cemetery Association of Peoria IL, Jewish Family and Children Services of San Rafael CA, and Hospice by the Bay of Larkspur, CA.
