Frieda was an accomplished business woman, starting at a young age in her family’s business, Werner’s Market. She graduated beauty school in Chicago and went on to own Frieda’s Beauty Shop in Peoria for several years. Later, she and her husband owned and operated Schepke’s Tree and Flower Market in Peoria for over 60 years. Frieda was truly the matriarch of her family and was very proud of their accomplishments. She talked often of how blessed and thankful she was for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She possessed a sharp wit and keen business sense, which she lovingly passed on to her family. She loved card games, especially poker, and shared this with her family and friends until the end of her life.
Frieda was a woman of great faith. She was a lifelong member of St. Ann’s (previously St. Boniface) Catholic Church in Peoria and a founding member of the St. Boniface’s Mothers Club. Frieda remained active with this group for many years. Frieda also found fellowship and support through Al-Anon throughout her life.
