Korean War Veteran with the USMC
Also known as "Peter" I could ride a horse like the wind. Swim like a dolphin. I could climb like a squirrel, for my job as an Illinois Bell/ATT PBX Lineman in Northern Illinois for 41+ years. That career allowed me to be literally up a telephone pole, when an acquaintance and friend of Thelma's, saw me working and when I came down, invited me to a party where as a blind date, I met the love of my life for over 54 years.
On retiring and moving to Peoria, I was a driver with Enterprise Car Rental for 20 years.....Being a traveler for many years, together we traveled to Europe and many US cities making a point of visiting museums, and zoos along the way. Checking out antique stores also. For a small town boy from Waukegan Illinois I've lived an interesting but blessed life along the way. Oh how I loved and adored the love of my life! For our very first date she had told me I have three children, so we come as a package deal! "Later, adding grandchildren to the mix one that lived within diaper changing reach, My little Buddy, loved to travel with us to visit his cousins across the sea. Once when telling me about his best friend, I asked him aren't I your best friend? At five years old he said "Oh you're just my old ball-head grandpa." At the beginning of my becoming baldheaded, it caused the curiosity of our 1 year-old, eldest grandson to continually bounce a balloon off my head driving down interstate 55. My Love and I also enjoyed bicycle riding as those bikes still hang from the garage ceiling as a reminder of what we used to be able to do! Of course, enjoying our Mackinac Island visits as that was their mode of transportation. I attribute my biking skills from being a youngster to a teenager, going from small job to small job in all kind of weather, so earning money to purchase my first car. I enjoyed jazz music, dancing, and could polka with the best of them. My 93 years on this earth has taught me to just love everyone and try and get along. I've lost two brothers and one sister along with my parents.
I leave behind, four wonderful children, Norman R. Sydnor of Waukegan,IL, Timothy (Barbara) Sydnor of Edwardsville, IL, Carmelita Sydnor of Chicago, IL, Todd Garrison (Mark) of Maryland; a forever daughter-in-law, Jody Lilla of Sarasota, FL; five grandchildren, Chase Sydnor of Stevenage, England, SMSgt. Brett Sydnor of Southern Pines, NC, Corey Sydnor of Sarasota, FL, D'Arcy Henley of San Antonio,TX, Wrenne Gillespie of Harvest, AL; five great-grandchildren; five loved sisters-in-law and their families; one brother-in-law; one sister; and three brothers, Warner of Chicago, lL, Dwight (Aljean) and Frank (Faye) both of Waukegan, IL, Molly (Julian) Beach Park, IL; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and loved friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry W. and Margarite L.; two brothers; and one sister.
He was of the Catholic faith.
