

He was born Jan. 26, 1928 on the family farm on Rt. #1in Princeton, IL to Gilbert E. and Ruth (Larson) Samuelson. He married Mary Alice Bitts in Woodhull, IL on Sept. 11, 1954. She survives.
Also surviving are two sisters, Dorothy Hedberg and Donna Wambeke both of Moline; sister-in-law, Sallie Jo Samuelson of Knoxville, TN; and several nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Delmar.
Following graduation from Princeton High School Gilbert enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in September of 1951. He immediately began his veterinary medicine studies at Iowa State College (now University) at Ames, Iowa. He received his D.V.M. degree in June of 1957 and joined a mixed practice at Princeton, IL where he remained for 10 years.
Dr. and Mrs. Samuelson moved to the East Coast where he was chief veterinarian at the ARS Beltsville Agricultural Research Center, Beltsville, MD. He then continued his career at the Food and Drug Administration reviewing new animal drugs specifically for swine. He retired in December of 1990. He was a life member of the A.V.M.A. and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
A private memorial service for the immediate family will be held at Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to his church at 1427 West Lake Avenue, Peoria 61614.
