

Gladys was born on April 21, 1920, to Walter and Lillian (Oberbach) Imthurn at Gridley, IL. She married Harold R. Johnson in Peoria on October 26, 1943. He died October 23, 1977 at St. Francis Hospital in Peoria. She later married Fred C. Prescott on August 7, 1993 in Peoria; he died December 24, 2008 at Proctor Place.
Gladys is survived by one son, David R. (Marsha) Johnson of Chatham, IL; one daughter, Pamela L. (Jerry) Barnabee of Plato, MO; one step-daughter, Kathryn (David) Williams of Lacey, WA; four granddaughters, Kari (Ryan) Schriber of St. Charles, MO, Nicole (Mike) Burns of Muntschemier, Switzerland, Gena Barnabee of Seattle, WA, and Renee (Tyler) Leuschke of Plainfield, IL; seven great-grandchildren, Jack, Ava, Paige, and Elyse Schriber, Natalie and Nathaniel Burns, and August Leuschke; two step-granddaughters, Kara (James) Lee and Melissa (Chuck) Lewis of Kent, WA; two step-great-granddaughters: Isabella Lee and Kallie Lewis; and two nieces, Barbara (Gary) Van Cleave of Peoria and Carol (John) Wallace of Centreville, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Margaret Kappler; and her brother, Walter Imthurn, Jr.
Gladys was a graduate of Peoria High School and Brown's Business College, where she was a member of Alpha Iota Sorority. She was a legal secretary for several years in Peoria, worked for the War Production Board during WWII, and later was a secretary at the Heyster Co. She was last employed in 1946, thereafter devoting full time to caring for her family and her community. She was Cub Scout Den Mother, Brownie and Girl Scout Troop Leader, Election Judge – stepping in wherever there was a need. Her children and grandchildren share priceless memories of family vacations, holiday get-togethers at Grandma's house, and visits from Grandma.
Gladys enjoyed travel, bridge, and golf. She was an active member of Union Congregational Church, later Parkview United Church of Christ, where she was active in the Women's Association. She also was a member of the Women's Auxiliary at Friendship House in Peoria for many years.
