Gordon Earl Franks

Gordon Earl Franks, 70, of Laura, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Carle Health Methodist Hospital. Born in Haines City, FL, on December 2, 1955, he was the son of the late Elvin T. and Maudie E. (Ethridge) Franks. On October 24, 1987, he married Phyliss J. Nedell in Vero Beach, FL.

Surviving Gordon is his wife, Phyliss Franks; daughter, Sunshine Wray; two brothers, Eulice "Sonny" Franks and Billy Joe Franks; and his beloved cat, Daisy. Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by seven siblings, Jesse Franks, James Franks, Mary Childers, Elvin "Buddy" Franks, Jr., JC Franks, Flossy Mosely, and Maudie Lozell.

Gordon served his career in the US Army, and spent 30 years in service. He was deployed to Iraq in 2001 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. He retired as SFC and worked as a mechanic and later as a recruiter. He was honorably discharged. It was a special privilege for him to participate on the Peoria Honor Flight.

Gordon was a motorcycle and automotive enthusiast. He owned a Harley and a Ford Model A. He enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and having weekly breakfast with his buddies.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Interment will take place privately at Parkview Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial contributions can be made to Peoria Honor Flight. Condolences and memories may be shared through Woolsey-Wilton.com
