Gordon W. Joyner, Sr. age 92, of Peoria, passed away Tuesday January 1, 2013 at 12:25 p.m. at his residence. He was born May 4, 1920 in Peoria to Louis P. and Alice (Cavallo) Joyner. He married Helen Clayton on July 1945 in Cape Cod, MA. She passed away July 28, 2003 in Peoria. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Marilyn Warren. Survivors include one daughter, Lesley (Tim) Keenan of West Peoria; one son, Gordon W. (Patti) Joyner II of Springfield; one granddaughter, Clayton Joyner of Springfield; and one grandson, Michael Joyner of Springfield. Gordon graduated from Bradley University in 1952. He was a highly decorated Army WW II Veteran receiving the Bronze Star. Following his time in the military, Gordon worked in radio for several stations in the Peoria area. He also was the Sports Director for WEEK TV from 1963 till 1973. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in Peoria. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial Mass will be Friday January 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Cathedral, with Rev. Canon Ralph J. Stanwise officiating. A visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in the church columbarium. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral.
