Gregory Guzman, age 82, of Lutheran Hillside Village, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022. Greg was born on December 25, 1939 in Stevens Point, WI to Edward and Stella Wiernik Guzman. He married Judith Stroik on August 22, 1964 in Stevens Point, WI.
Greg is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter: Gary (Michele) Guzman of Peoria, IL, Mark (Rupa Chakrabarti) of Reading, England, and Jill (Jonathan) Blitstein of Holly Springs, NC. Greg is also survived by four grandchildren: Jessica Guzman of Peoria, IL, Douglas Guzman of Chicago, IL, Nandini Guzman and Ashish Guzman of Reading, England. Greg is survived by his brother, Jim (Gerri) Guzman of Biron, WI. He is also survived by many in-laws and nieces and nephews.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Paul, and sister, Elizabeth.
Greg received his Bachelors degree from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point; Masters degree from the University of Pittsburgh; and Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati. He taught Ancient, Medieval, and Early European History at Bradley University for 41 years. During his years at Bradley, Greg received the Rothberg Award for Professional Excellence and also was a Caterpillar Professor. He also was the founder and editor of the Vincent of Beauvais Newsletter.
The family would like to thank the staff at Illinois Cancer Care, especially Dr. Gary MacVicker and Deb Rufus, Methodist Hospice, and the staff at Reach Lutheran Hillside Village for the kindness and care given to Greg during his illness.
Cremation has been accorded. A Celebration of Greg’s life will begin at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 10, 2022 with sharing of memories at Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria and then the family will greet friends until 4:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Greg’s name may be given to Illinois Cancer Care Foundation, Yates Phi Alpha Theta History Scholarship at Bradley University, or Lutheran Hillside Village Foundation.
