HAROLD W. BERG Harold W. Berg, 92, of Peoria, passed away peacefully in his home in Peoria on Friday, August 3, 2018. He was born in Hoopeston, Illinois on September 25, 1925 to Chester and Edith (Wood) Berg. Harold married Lorraine Kuhn on January 25, 1945 in Peoria, enjoying 71 years of marriage before Lorraine passed away on October 27, 2016. Harold is survived by his sister, Lillian Knight, his children, Todd (Martha) Berg of Roscoe, IL, Tami (Pat) Grady of Davenport, IA, Brad Berg of Peoria, grandchildren, Melissa (Adam) Garcia of Villa Park, IL, Michael Berg of Rockford, IL, Austin Berg of Chesapeake, VA, Brandon Berg of Bloomington, IL and Kelsey Berg of Bloomington, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Chet and Leon “Bud”. Following high school, Harold enlisted in the Marine Corps. serving in World War II with the Marine Raiders. When he returned home, he and Lorraine were married and moved to Bloomington, IL where he worked for Country Companies for 40 years, retiring in 1992. He and Lorraine owned and operated a property appraisal business, Midwest Appraisal, until they returned to live in Peoria in 2009. Harold was an active member in Peoria’s Mohammed Temple serving as Potentate in 1992. He was a two-time Purple Heart recipient and member of the Marine Raiders Association. He travelled extensively on behalf of this organization speaking about his war experiences. He went on the Greater Peoria Honor Flight in 2013. Harold and Lorraine were life-long boaters on the Illinois River. They were members of the Peoria Boat Club and the IVY Club. He was a member of First Federated Church of Peoria. Funeral services for Harold will be Friday, Aug. 10, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel, Peoria, IL where visitation will take place from 9:30 to time of services at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria with Military Honors following the services. HAROLD W. BERG
