

East Peoria – Harold Eugene Kumpf, 84, of East Peoria, passed away peacefully at his home at 9:38 PM on Sunday, May 19, 2013. He was born on Staten Island, NY on January 20, 1929 to Paul and Ruth Barwick Kumpf. He married Bess Burns, she preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his parents and one sister, Claire Alice Sullivan.
He later married Donna “DeeDee” Doolittle, whom he met at St Francis Hospital, on August 17, 1973 in Peoria. She survives, along with five children Steve (Paula) Kumpf of Chillicothe, Robert Kumpf of Peoria, Kimberly (Steve) Butterfield of Westminster, CO, Michael (Kirsten) McDowell of Washington, NC and Mark (Colleen) McDowell of White Lake, MI; seven Grandchildren; three Great Granddaughters; and one Brother Carl (Brigette) Kumpf of Boca Raton, FL.
Harold was a graduate of Woodruff High School. He had been a printing stripper and camera-man for the Fleming Potter Company in Peoria, retiring in 1991 after 18 years of service. He was a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys. He was an avid runner, participating in the St. Jude’s Memphis to Peoria Run for three years. He had also completed the Twin Cities Marathon at age sixty-one. He enjoyed travelling.
Harold has donated his remains to the Stritch School of Medicine of Loyola University.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2013, which would have been his 40th anniversary, at his home, beginning at 4:00 PM. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate, Helping Hands Home Healthcare of East Peoria, or Vitas Hospice. Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.
