Harry Philip Schindler, 95, of Peoria, Illinois, formerly of Bartonville, died Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Independence Village in Peoria, Illinois. He was born on August 1, 1918 in Bartonville, Illinois. He was the son of Philip G. and Sarah (Lane) Schindler. He married Frederica “Fritzie” Frazier on July 15, 1944 in Waco, Texas. She preceded him in death on May 22, 1971 in Bartonville, Illinois. He later married Lucille Bisby Parker on June 29, 1973 in Bartonville, Illinois. She survives.
Harry has one daughter, Gail (Craig) Peine of Minier, Illinois and one step daughter Dana Parker of Denver, Colorado. He has two granddaughters, Kassandra (Adam) Jenkins of Danvers, Illinois and Kristine Peine of Minier, Illinois; two great granddaughters, Evelyn and Elizabeth Jenkins of Danvers, Illinois. He has several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews surviving. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jay Schindler.
Harry was a lifelong resident of Bartonville. He graduated from Manual High School and Bradley University. He was a College Apprentice at Caterpillar Inc. He served as a flying and ground instructor in the Army Air Corp in WWII. He served during the Korean Conflict as the post engineer at Sonderstrom Fjord Air Base in Greenland on flying status. He was a general building contractor in the Peoria Area with his brother Jay Schindler at Phil Schindler and Sons retiring in 1983. He served nine years with the Peoria Airport Authority as a Trustee, served three years with the Greater Peoria Sanitary District as a Trustee, was the first Chairman of the Bartonville Playground and Recreation Board. He served eleven years on the Bartonville Fire Department and was a Past President of the Bartonville Lions Club. Harry was a member and served three terms as a Trustee for the Peoria Elks Club #20. He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Bartonville. Harry was a life member of the Bartonville American Legion Post 979.
A celebration of life service will be Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Bartonville. The Rev. Dr. Phillip Lund will officiate. A visitation will be from 10 AM until 11 AM at the Church on Saturday. Cremation rites have been accorded and private inurnment will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Bartonville.
