Herbert Barnett

Peoria – Herbert Barnett, Sr., 83, of Peoria, passed away at 7:45 a.m. Saturday, February 29, 2020 at his home. He was born in Baldwyn, Mississippi on May 28, 1936 to Lewis and Ethel (Body) Barnett. Herbert married Mary Lee Adams on August 12, 1957 in Benoit, Mississippi, she preceded him in death on June 27, 2012 in Peoria. He was also preceded in death by his two sons, Bobbie and Donnell Barnett; and 11 brothers and sisters.

Surviving are his 10 children, Joe Stampley of Ohio, Arthur Adams, Lorine Barnett, Earlean Ramsey-Barnett, Herbert Barnett, Jr., Shirley Barnett, and Larry James (Carletta) Barnett, all of Peoria, Melvin (Charmaine) Barnett of Macomb, Mary Nell-Barnett of Evansville, Indiana, and Subrena Barnett of Peoria; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Herbert loved to fish, garden, and paint. He was a member of Galilee Baptist Church in Peoria.

Herbert’s funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Church of the Living God LBLC #5, 1703 N. Linn St. Peoria, IL 61604. Church ministers will officiate. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria is in charge of arrangements. Cremation will be after the service. Burial will take place at a later date.
