

Hwaja is survived by her daughter, Grace Kell, of Festus, Missouri, one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren, all in the USA; nephew, Young Ik Suh and three nieces, Hae Jung Suh, Hee Kyung Suh, and Yeun Ju Suh, all of South Korea.
She graduated in 1946 from Ewha Women’s University in Seoul, South Korea with a major in Home Economics. Hwaja earned B.A. degree, major in nutrition and dietetics in 1962 from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She graduated from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb in 1970, earning her M.S. degree in food and nutrition.
Hwaja was trained and served as a clinical dietician at the Northwestern Memorial Hospital-Wesley Pavilion in Chicago from 1962 to 1969. From 1969 to 1985, she was a director of dietary service at the Galesburg Mental Health Center in Galesburg. She also worked as a consultant dietician at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville from 1973 to 1975. From 1985 to her retirement in January of 2000, she was a director of dietary service at the Zeller Mental Health Center in Peoria.
She was a member of the American Dietetic Association. Hwaja retired from Registered Dietician in 2006 and as a Licensed Dietician in 2004.
Hwaja was a member of the Korean Presbyterian Church in Peoria.
Hwaja's funeral service will be at 11:00 am Monday, August 14, 2023 at the Davison-Fulton-Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. Pastor Hyaekwang Kim will officiate. Her visitation will be from 10:30 am to 11:00 am also on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society or a charity of donor’s choice.
