

James "Jim" Rumberger 79, of Peoria, Illinois, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 9, 2024. Born April 13, 1944 in Huntington, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Wilbur Rumberger and Jeannette Demarest. He is survived by his brother, Edwin Rumberger; and sister, Ruby Stecca. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Rumberger and brother, William Rumberger.
“Jimmy” grew up in Huntington, Pa. He enjoyed raising rabbits and family pets. He played the trumpet at school and church. He also sang with his siblings at church. He worked a bicycle paper route in grade school and in High School he worked at a convenience store to earn money for college. He and his family annually vacationed at Ocean City, NJ. He talked fondly about the beautiful ocean and boardwalk adventures.
Jim moved to Wheaton, IL to attend Wheaton College, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education. He later earned his Master's degree in English at Northern Illinois University. He met Bea at a college roller skating party in 1964. They married on March 25, 1967. They have three surviving children, daughters, Heather Rumberger of Galesburg, IL and Adora (Anthony) Lockaby, of Heath, TX; and son, James Rumberger of Peoria, IL; one granddaughter, Bailey (Trey) Strong; and one grandson, Coleton (Katherine) Lockaby.
He and Bea moved to West Chicago, IL where he taught High School Art and English classes for 38 years. Once retired, he taught two years at College of DuPage. He and Bea had a large garden, chickens, goats, and raised miniature Schnauzers. He was a member of The Schnauzer Club of Chicago and co-led the local 4-H Club. He liked taking his family on fun camping trips.
Jim was a gentle, kind, and patient man. He was quick to listen and laugh. He spent many hours listening to The Gaither Vocal Band and gospel music on his record player. He created numerous beautiful paintings and ceramics over the years.
In 2008, Jim and Bea moved to Peoria to be closer to their daughter, Heather. They transferred their church membership to Peoria First. They hosted and led a small group for 10 years. They visited shut-ins and provided weekly rides to church for those who could not drive.
Funeral service will be held at Davison-Fulton-Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 17, 2024. The family will greet guests one hour prior to service. Burial will take place later at Glen Oak Cemetery in West Chicago, IL. Memorials may be made to Peoria First Church.
