James “Jimmer” Arnold McCarter Jr., 59, of Peoria Heights, Illinois, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, music, and unwavering optimism. Born on May 2, 1967, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Jimmer lived each day with a grateful heart and a positive outlook that touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Above all else, Jimmer was a devoted father and an adoring grandfather. His family was the center of his world, and his greatest joy came from spending time with his children and grandchildren. Whether he was sharing stories, making someone laugh, or simply enjoying their company, those moments meant everything to him.
Jimmer had a lifelong passion for music and loved playing the drums. It was fitting that his favorite character was Animal from The Muppets, whose enthusiasm and love of drumming always made him smile. He was also a lifelong gamer and enjoyed the thrill and freedom of riding motorcycles, hobbies that reflected his adventurous spirit and youthful heart.
Those who knew Jimmer will remember his remarkable ability to find the silver lining in every situation. Even during life’s darkest moments, he had a way of focusing on the good and helping others do the same. His favorite words, “Take it one day at a time,” were more than a saying. They reflected the way he lived and the encouragement he so freely shared with everyone around him.
Jimmer is lovingly survived by his children, Christopher and Angelica Archdale, and James III and Ashley McCarter; his brother Scott and Cindy Forbes; his cherished granddaughters, Elizabeth Archdale, Margaret Bonfitto, Magdelina Archdale, Kimberlee Archdale, and Sawyer McCarter; along with many extended family members, dear friends, and everyone whose life was made brighter by knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Gavin M. Klein; his mother, Marcia “Marty” McCarter; and his grandfather, Bob Castetter.
Visitation will be held at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel on Saturday July 18th at 10 AM with service at 11 AM and burial at Smithville cemetery to follow.
