

James B. McGovern, 71, of West Peoria, Illinois, died Wednesday evening, February 26, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 20, 1942 in Peoria, Illinois. He was the son of John and Ethel (Wirth) McGovern.
He is survived by his long-time love Patricia Minster of Peoria, Illinois, one son, Anthony (Tony) McGovern of Springfield, Illinois, two daughters, Laura (James) Tessem of Bartonville and Kelly (Kenny) Kerr of Peoria, as well as four grandchildren: Savannah Tessem and James L. Tessem of Bartonville, Michelle Dilkey of Roseville, and Joshua Kerr of Peoria. He is also survived by five siblings: Pete (Wanda) Forquer of Peoria, Barbara (Joe) Polenc of Plainfield, Marilyn (Graham) Alcott of Napa, California, Sandra Marchand of Peoria, and Patricia (Ed) Winchell of Peoria, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Leona (James) Burton.
James attended Manual High School and entered the U.S. Navy in 1960, where he served his country until 1962 and was honorably discharged. He worked for Isaac Walker Carpet Company for many years. He later worked for Country Carpets in Dunlap, Illinois. He enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Bradley Basketball and Chicago Bears fan.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Davison Fulton Woodland Chapel. The Rev. Brock Winkler will officiate. A visitation will be from 9 AM until 11 AM on Wednesday at the funeral chapel. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be made to the OSF Hospice.
