

He was born January 21, 1961 in Peoria to Daniel and Kazuko (Uchida) Rogers. He married Rachel Kaneshiro on January 21, 2006 in Woodford County. She survives along with one son, Tobias Kumiko Rogers, one brother, Daniel Rogers of Tennessee, three sisters: Charlotte Schmidt of Florida, Amy (Casey) Kiker of South Carolina, and Tomie Rogers of Peoria. Also surviving are 4 nephews, 2 nieces, and many great nieces/nephews and great great nieces/nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law, Tsuneo Kaneshiro, and one niece, Jenifer Carr.
J.R graduated from Illinois Central College with a degree in graphic design . He was a well known and respected chef specializing in Asian cuisine, owning and operating Yamamoto Japanese Grill from 2004-2009. He managed many other restaurants in the Peoria area and was featured in a YouTube video on the You Gotta Eat channel. J.R. was an avid fisherman and loved riding his Harley. He was a devoted husband, father, brother and uncle, and maintained a special relationship with his stepson, Jason Pedrick.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria is in charge of arrangements. There will be a Celebration of J.R.’s life on Saturday, August 1, at 10:00 a.m. at one of his favorite fishing spots located at 1012 Camp Grove Road in Sparland. The location is accessible from either Route 29 or Route 40. Balloons will mark the turns.
