Joan Lee Barrett

Joan Lee (Hunt) Barrett, 85, of Kickapoo, Illinois, passed away at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home on October 17, 2026. Born June 20, 1941, to Ted and Merley Hunt, she lived most of her adult life in Kickapoo, IL.

Joan worked at Walgreens and the trust department of a bank before stepping away from a career to stay home and raise her two children, John and Christine. She took great value in her lifelong love of homes—building their three homes and eventually becoming a realtor before retiring from Century 21. Joan was previously married to Carl Moon, and later Brian Barrett. Together they were part of the family story that shaped her life.

Joan found enjoyment in the friendships she built through her many interests. Joan often talked about the relationships that came through her interests and hobbies. She looked forward to her monthly Card Club with her Kickapoo lady friends, and the Peoria Garden Club. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, shoe

shopping and sweets from Trefzgers with lots of icing. She will be remembered by her kids and grandkids for her cherry cheesecake.

Joan is survived by her two children, John (Sarah) Moon of Brimfield, Illinois, and Christine (Alec Kowalewski) Moon of Corvallis, Oregon; her stepdaughter, Beth (Scott) Schlueter; and her beloved

grandchildren, Cora and Levi Moon, Grace, Olivia, and Anna Schlueter, and Adelina Kowalewski; and several nieces and nephews with whom she had many special memories. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Culver, Ted, and Carl Hunt. She would say that Ted was

always looking out for her, and Culver was her buddy.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 23, 2026, at Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery near Brimfield, IL, at 1:30 p.m.
