

He was born March 3, 1934 in Peoria to William and Bernice (Mahrt) Phillips. He married Jan Chester on December 12, 1954 in Peoria. They were married for 58 years and together for 60.
Surviving is his wife Jan of Peoria; two sons, Jeff (Cindy) Phillips of Metamora, John (Pam) Phillips of Panama City Beach, FL; one daughter, Jayne (Jim) Piccoli of Peoria; one brother, Mike (Betty) Phillips of Peoria Heights; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one great-grandson.
Jack was a Millwright for Continental Grain in Bartonville for many years retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local #183, Peoria Federation of Musicians Local #26 and St. Thomas Catholic Church.
Jack started playing the drums when he was only 14 years old. He began to play professionally at the age of 18. He played for many professional bands as well as playing the local scene. His nickname while playing was “Brushes”.
Jack’s passion was working in his yard. He loved to spend time planting flowers and making his yard look beautiful but his true love was his family.
Jack loved to spend time with his wife and family every year at their cottage on Prairie Lake in Chetek, WI. He enjoyed giving his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids the experience of boating, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors. Jack also loved all of his dogs, especially “Dad’s Boy, Jessie”.
A funeral will be held for Jack at 11 a.m., Monday, September 10, 2012 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday at the chapel. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
