

Relocating from Grenada to Peoria, Illinois John attended Lincoln Elementary School and graduated from Peoria Central High School in 1956. He looked forward to enlisting in the military to see the world but was not accepted due to an eye condition. Instead, John worked at Caterpillar Tractor Company and after several layoffs, he was hired at Pabst Brewing Company and worked there for 23 years until the plant was relocated. However, in the early 70s he returned to Caterpillar and worked part-time for 10 years while working at Pabst.
In 1985, John started working at The Pere Marquette Hotel. He Enrolled in a two-year Associate of Applied Science at Illinois Central College. After completing his degree in 1992, he was offered the position of night manager where he worked for 25 years until the hotel closed.
John was a devoted father to his two sons from his first marriage, Kenneth (Kenny), and Anthony (Tony). In 1972 he met Beverly Travillion, who he married in November 1983 forming a bond that lasted for over 50 years. He was a caring son who took care of his mother in her golden years.
He served on various committees and boards. The Tri-County Urban League, The Voter Registration Committee of the Local NAACP. Served on three contact negotiation committees for Pabst Brewing Company and was a Union Steward for three years while employed at Pabst Brewing Company.
John belonged to the Masons and was a Shriner, but currently not active. He had many loves which included sports, listening to jazz music, Earth, Wind and Fire, watching movies, bowling in the TNBA and traveling. He was always ready for a new adventure which took him and his wife around the world sharing many experiences. His easy-going personality, style of dress and compassion for life will be forever remembered and missed.
John is survived by his wife, Beverly T. Wysinger; children, Kenneth (Trenda) Wysinger, Anthony (Kimberly) Wysinger; 2 grandchildren, Cory Wysinger and Jaykada Gaines, one aunt, cousins and a host of friends. A special thank you to Donny Johnson and Reese Smith for the many acts of kindness that they gave to their adopted Dad and Uncle.
John is preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, (Henry Wysinger), and one grandson, Anthony T. Wysinger II.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, August 29, 2025 at the Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home, 2408 West Willow Knolls Drive in Peoria with Pastor Harvey Burnett officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service and a committal service will follow the funeral at the Chapel of Peace at Parkview Cemetery 2001 North University St. in Peoria.
