Dr. Jorge N. Carballido

Peoria - Dr. Jorge N. Carballido, 84, of Peoria passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 17, 2011 at OSF Hospital in Peoria. He was born February 26, 1927, to Maria del Carmen Canseco and Hildebrando Carballido in Ejutla, Oaxaca, Mexico.

Jorge married Linda J. Martin of Chillicothe, IL in 1963. She preceded him in death in June 2007. He is survived by three sons: John (Mandy) of Hanna City, Jorge A. (Karyn) of Peoria, and Jim (Marci) of Peoria. His elder brother Bando preceded him in death while two brothers, Wolstano and Antonio in Mexico, survive him. Jorge had seven beloved grandchildren: Zoe, Josie, Abby, Alexis, Joe, Ryan, and Janelle. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and he will be greatly missed by his family.

Dr. Carballido graduated from the University of Mexico Medical School in 1955 and served his internship in Chicago at St. Mary’s Hospital. He moved to Peoria in 1960, working as a physician for Proctor Hospital and the Peoria State Hospital. He opened his own practice as a General Practitioner in 1969 and faithfully served his patients for over 20 years in the Peoria community. He concluded his professional career in medicine last working for Proctor First Care Clinics until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of the Peoria Medical Society, Illinois State Medical Association, and served on staff with Proctor Hospital.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 19, from 5-7 p.m at Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home on Allen Rd. in Peoria. Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m Wednesday, July 20 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Peoria with a 30-minute visitation preceding.

Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Peoria.

Memorials in Jorge’s name may be made to St. Francis Woods Supportive Living or the Peoria Historical Society.
