Born on February 21, 1943, in Peru, Illinois, to Joseph “Joe” and Helen (Stein) Kurtz. He was a 1961 graduate of Saint Bede Academy and is preceded in death by his parents and his only sibling James “Jimmy” Kurtz.
Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He spent his life leading with quiet strength, a quick wit, and a generous heart. His kindness, integrity, and love for his family were the hallmarks of a life well lived.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Margaret (Watts) Kurtz, his children, Craig Kurtz (Susan) and Lori Long (Matt), and his grandchildren, Mary, Ellyn and Andy (Craig) Kurtz, Hudson and Grant (Lori) Long.
A lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, Joe found joy in every inning—win or lose. He was a champion bowler who also loved to play golf, spending countless hours enjoying the challenges, the camaraderie, and the peace it brought him. Whether cheering on his team, starting an opening frame, or teeing off with friends, Joe appreciated the simple pleasures in life.
He will be remembered not only for his unwavering support and wisdom but also for the warmth he brought to every room. Whether offering a helping hand, a joke, or sharing a story that made others smile, Joe touched many lives.
