Joy L. Summers, age 80, of Peoria passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021 after battling cancer for two years. She was born to Wilson E. Summers and Mary Lucille (Knobloch) Summers on April 25, 1941 in Peoria– just a few months before Pearl Harbor.
Surviving are her brother, Gary Summers and his wife Barbara; one niece Sherrilyn Schwing and her husband Anton, one nephew, Timothy Summers and his wife Tania. She is also survived by 3 great nephews, one great niece, and one great great nephew. She also leaves behind several cousins and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Joy enjoyed singing and was a lifetime member of the Sweet Adelines– first with the Belles of Harmony and then the Heart of Illinois. She was also a lifetime member on MENSA. She worked 24 years for CEFCU and retired in 2000.
She was baptized for the forgiveness of sins in 1993 in Columbia City, Indiana.
A funeral service for Joy will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel, 2021 N University St, Peoria, Illinois 61604. Her brother, Preacher Gary Summers will officiate.
Entombment will be in Parkview Mausoleum.
