Karen S. Buss

Karen S (Maxwell) Buss, 66, of Lake Camelot, IL passed away at OSF St Francis Medical Center, Saturday, June 17, 2023 peacefully with her family by her side after a brief fight with cancer. She was born the fourth of five children in Moline, IL January 24, 1957, the daughter of Robert and Lucy (Pierce) Maxwell. In 1978 in Peoria, IL she married Roger L. Buss. She graduated from Peoria Central High School in 1975. She graduated from Moline Public Hospital School of Nursing in 1978 with her RN diploma. She started work in the Neonatal ICU at St Francis Hospital in 1978. She retired February 1st, 2021 after more than 43 years of service. She also served as a life flight nurse transporting premature infants in the early part of her career. She lived in Decatur, IL during her childhood but has resided in the Peoria area her entire adult time. She enjoyed reading, sudoku, camping, boating, card and dice games, pranks and practical jokes, and spending time with her three grandchildren. She has been a member of Bartonville Christian Church.

She is survived by her loving husband, Roger; her children Megan and Robin Bielefeldt of Chaska, MN and Danielle Buss and fiance Ron Bowen of Peoria, IL; her grandchildren Kyle, Jacob and Alexandra; her brother Richard (Karen) Maxwell of Longmont, CO, her sisters Cathy (Bill) Fusco of Daleville, Virginia, and Linda (Dennis) Hunt of Germantown Hills, IL, brother in law Merle Kent (Diane) Buss of Oakwood, IL and sister in law Susan (Philip) Fifield of Holmes Beach, FL; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews, and her close long time friend Cheryl (Kenny) Colgan of Hanna City, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lucy Maxwell; her sister Nancy Wing; she was also preceded in death by her many beloved pets, Sugar, Mandy, Jester, Hunter and Cheyenne.

Visitation will be held at Bartonville Christian Church, 4900 W Pfeiffer Rd, Bartonville, IL on Friday, June 23 6-8pm and Saturday June 24 10-11am with funeral services immediately following. SoBeck Song will be officiating services.
