

Kathryn D. Yates, 87, of Metamora passed away at 1:00 p.m., Saturday July 27, 2013 at Lutheran Hillside Village surrounded by her entire family. She was born on September 3, 1926 in Bow, Kentucky, the daughter of Bertie and Captain E.L. Daniel, one of 12 children. She was a graduate of Lindsay Wilson Junior College and Western Kentucky University. Upon graduation, she moved to Peoria, Illinois, to teach at Whittier School. In Peoria, she met the love of her life, Lyle F. Yates, and married him in 1954. He preceded her in death in 2003. Also preceding her in death was a son, David. Kathryn is survived by her daughters, Carol Yates, of Vienna, Virginia, Lori Yates of Springfield, Illinois, and Martha Yates Newton (Paul) of Oakton Virginia, and a son, Daniel (Mary) Yates of Chillicothe, and her long-term caregiver, Mary Conrad of Chillicothe. She also is survived by her beloved grandchildren and step grandchildren, Lyndsey, Danielle, Alana, Heath, Ted and Bridgette and a great grandchild, Alexander. She loved raising her children and took great pleasure in her grandchildren. She gave her children the greatest gifts, the gift of love and time and raising them in a strong Christian home. A lifelong volunteer committed to Christian service, Kathryn was dedicated to the Dwight Women’s Prison Ministry and was a member of First United Methodist Church for 63 years. Family would like to thank the staff at Lutheran Hillside Village for the compassionate and competent care they extended to Kathy. Cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, at Lutheran Hillside Village, Waters of Life Chapel Peoria, Ill., with a visitation two hours before. Pastor Paul Park will officiate. Interment will be at the Rose of Sharon Cemetery in Bow, Kentucky at a later date.
