

He was born on June 5, 1965 in Galesburg to Laurence Calvin Mitchell Sr. and Erma Lee (Wright) Mitchell.
Larry is survived by his daughters, Aubree (Trey Owens) Mitchell and Shantel (Antonne) Maxison, both of Peoria, and his former wife Shannon (Pickens) Johnson of Peoria. They co-parented and co-grandparented well, raising their daughters and grandchildren together. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Kyla, Lauren, Trey Jr., Hunter, and Tatum. He leaves behind his sister Carolyn Mitchell Harrison Hall of Florida, nephews, Kyle Harrison and Kellen (April) Harrison, great nephews, Keyondre and Kannon, and great niece, Leairah, sister Charlotte Mitchell Taylor of Ohio and nephew, Seven Taylor, brother, Michael Mitchell of Peoria, and brother Benjamin (Stephanie) Mitchell of Peoria, nephew, Ryan (Meghan) Moredock, nieces, Sasha Moredock and Aniyah Bennett, and great-nephews, Amari, Alijah, and Amir. He will be missed by his Pickens family who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, paternal grandparents, Gold and Ola (Vann) Mitchell, maternal grandparents, Herman and Ruth (Stump) Wright, brothers-in-law, Curtis Burdette and Chester Mackey, and sister-in-law, Rene Pickens.
Larry worked for Illinois American Water Company for 14 years, finishing his time there as a Field Service Technician. He was an official for IHSA and IESA basketball, baseball, volleyball, and softball for nearly 30 years. He loved being on the court and officiated the IESA Basketball State Finals, and the 2019 IHSA Basketball State Finals. In his free time, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, boating, and roller-skating with his brothers. He was a dad and uncle to many and a friend to everyone. Larry loved everyone he came across and didn’t have an enemy, and he was well-loved by all that knew him. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a Celebration of Life will be held at the Moose Shelter at Detweiller Park, 8327 N. Galena Rd. in Peoria on Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 12:00-4:00 PM.
Donations may be made to Aubree Mitchell or Shantel Maxison to be placed in an education fund for his five grandchildren.
