Leona M. Hulett, 87, of Peoria passed away at 12:42 am Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Manor Court of Peoria. She was born August 1, 1929 at home in Meredosia, IL the daughter of Edward and Alma Rausch Dickman. She married Elmer Hulett on June 27, 1950 in Jacksonville. He preceded her in death after 63 years of marriage on August 27, 2013. Leona is survived by two sons, Lauren (Tressie) Hulett of Chillicothe and Carlson (Sandra) Hulett of Peoria; one daughter, Melinda Camp of Peoria; one sister, Glenniss Dickman of Meredosia; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and one grandchild. Leona was valedictorian of her eighth grade class and graduated from Meredosia Community High School in 1947. She then went on to take business classes at Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Missouri, and worked for a short time at NESCO in Jacksonville prior to starting her family. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Meredosia, where she taught Sunday School. When she moved to Peoria she attended El Vista Baptist Church. Leona enjoyed time with family, being outdoors, swinging in the porch swing, watching over her flower gardens, baking, sewing, needlework and working crossword puzzles. She was truly an animal lover, enjoying any time she could spend watching the capers of nature and loving and spoiling all of the pets she had and could get her hands on. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Graveside services will be at 11 am Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Oakland Cemetery in Meredosia, IL. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Meredosia, IL. Pastor Ray Harrison will officiate. Memorials may be given to The Alzheimer’s Association or Illinois Cancer Care.
