

He was born September 17, 1927 in Moline, IL to Lloyd T. and Ida (Nelson) Carlson. He married Edna L. Starbranch November 20, 1953, who preceded him in death on March 20, 2016.
Surviving are his children: Lisa (Gary) Acton of Branson, MO, Peter (Lora) Carlson of Champaign and Karen (Keith) Ruckle of Metamora. Grandchildren: Beth (T.J.) Morgan, Sara, Amy, Grant and Joanna Carlson. Great grandchildren: Adelyn and Caralyn Morgan. Sister, Lois Winkler, one nephew and two nieces.
Lloyd graduated from United Township High School in East Moline in 1945 . He received his Bachelor Degree in 1959 and his Master of Social Work in 1961 from the University of Illinois, at Urbana-Champaign. Lloyd practiced social work at the Nachusa Children’s Home in Dixon and helped establish an office for the Illinois Lutheran Welfare Association in Peoria. He retired in 1987 after working for 18 years at Zellar Mental Health Center.
Lloyd served in the U.S. Army from January 1954 to January of 1956, part of that time being stationed in Korea.
A member of Salem Lutheran Church for over 52 years, Lloyd served on church council along with other roles including many years operating soundboard.

Visitation will be Friday, October 7th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Additional visitation will be at 10:00am on Saturday, October 8th, at Salem Lutheran Church, where services will follow at 11:00am with Military Honors. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.
Memorials may be made to the Parish Nursing Program at Salem Lutheran Church, which his wife was instrumental in starting.
